Call for new ACT heritage council members | Three new members are required for the Council which works to ensure the recognition, registration, conservation, and promotion of the ACT’s unique heritage places and objects, including natural, Aboriginal and historic local heritage. Applicants must have expertise in history, archaeology and architecture. Closing date to apply is 25 October 2019.

National film and sound archive to start collecting video games | The National Film and Sound Archive (NFSA) has announced it will start collecting Australian video games for archival preservation. It is currently hosting the exhibition Game Masters: The Exhibition which showcases 50 years of video game history — from Pac Man and Donkey Kong to virtual reality. 

In vogue a 60-year history of aussie women to go on show | Vogue Australia turns 60 this year and the celebration includes an upcoming exhibition at the National Portrait Gallery of Australia Women in Vogue: Celebrating 60 years in Australia. Curator Aimee Board explains how the Vogue portraits can tell us much about the experience of Australian women across the decades. It opens 11 October 2019. 

Where there’s smoke there’s fire | ACT Archives article tells how in 1994 the ACT became the first Australian jurisdiction to ban smoking in restaurants and by 1998 the first to ban smoking in enclosed areas of pubs and clubs. It highlights that these reforms help develop Australia’s reputation as a world leader in tobacco control. 

Corkhill bros a proud Canberra business for 65 years | The Canberra Business Chamber is looking for Canberra’s oldest surviving businesses and has so far recognised the 65-year-old Corkhill Brothers (established 1954), WR Engineering (1967), and Watson Blinds & Awnings (1969). As well article explains how the Corkhill’s business was born when it was clear their dairy farm, near the present site of the National Library, would be covered by Lake Burley Griffin.
