Winning history: 2019 NSW Premier’s History Awards announced

The 2019 NSW Premier’s History Awards were announced on 30 August 2019 at the State Library of NSW as part of the official launch of NSW History Week. 

The 2019 winners were: 

Australian History Prize ($15,000) | The Bible in Australia: A Cultural History by Meredith Lake 

General History Prize ($15,000) | Sea People: The Puzzle of Polynesia by Christina Thompson 

NSW Regional and Community History Prize ($15,000) | Cage of Ghosts by Jon Rhodes 

Young People’s History Prize ($15,000) | The Upside-down History of Down Under by Alison Lloyd and Terry Denton

Digital History Prize ($15,000) | The Killing Times Guardian Australia’s series by Lorena Allam, Nick Evershed, Carly Earl, Paul Daley, Andy Ball, Ciaran O’Mahony, Jeremy Nadel and the University of Newcastle Colonial Massacres Research Team 

Senior Judge, Dr Melissa Bellanta said of the awards: 

The winners of the 2019 NSW Premier's History Awards represent the best of an extraordinary collection of shortlisted works. More than ever, these Awards demonstrate the verve and commitment of those engaged in historical research in Australia, and the compelling relevance of their research to present-day concerns.
