Conversations are always dangerous

Conversations are always dangerous

Conversations are always dangerous if you have something to hide, said Miss Marple
— Agatha Christie, A Caribbean Mystery

The quote and image today is inspired by the National Archives of Australia's exhibition Spy: Espionage in Australia which I am really looking forward to seeing. In Canberra until 27 April 2020, it is touring after this. Entry is free. Also see here for a sneaky peak of some interesting photographs including images of the Soviet diplomats Vladimir and Evdokia Petrov whose defection in 1954 and its consequences came to be known as the Petrov Affair.

Acknowledgement: This is another hand bill produced during the Second World War, titled Your Tongue Can Lose the Life Your Rifle Would Protect [picture]. (1944). The image comes from the State Library of Victoria and is out of copyright. See acknowledgement page for full details.

Please share. Let’s get the past and present talking.
